Basics
Criteria for certification and funding
There are no technical criteria or specifications for certification and promotion. We focus solely on energy consumption figures and certify and promote appliances that meet the following two criteria:
1. you have an energy saving of at least 20% compared to a base value (benchmark). The base value is calculated from all available energy figures per category.
2. Your energy consumption is a maximum of 25% higher than that of the best appliance in its category.
These two criteria result in the maximum daily consumption for a subsidy
Calculation of energy consumption
EcoGastro now uses values in accordance with EN IEC 63136, which must be published for all commercial dishwashers placed on the market from January 1, 2024. The measurements are carried out by the manufacturers.
The daily consumption of an appliance is calculated by weighting the corresponding test values in accordance with EN IEC 63136. The measured energy valuesEi of the individual processes aremultiplied by the weight ki and added together. This corresponds to standard user behavior based on practical experience from energy consulting and from the manufacturers. We also rely on the results of the project "Fundamentals of energy efficiency of commercial kitchen appliances" commissioned by the SFOE.
The energy consumption per cycle is divided by the cleaning performance as a percentage, which takes into account the fact that a second wash cycle is necessary if cleaning is incomplete.
Consideration of exhaust air WRG
Recovering the heat from the exhaust air leads to a lower room load with steam. This in turn reduces the load on the room ventilation system. We take this into account with a reduction of 3% in the energy consumption of the cleaning cycle for appliances with exhaust air heat recovery.
Calculation formula
Weighting of the processes
The daily consumption is calculated by weighting the processes as follows.
Determination of savings
The average energy consumption of a dishwasher is compared with a base value determined from the values of all available measurement data for the various types of dishwasher. The base value represents the daily consumption of a less efficient appliance as it is on the market today (reference value for an inefficient appliance).
Underlying
The base values from May 1, 2024 are shown in the table below. The base values are calculated from the energy consumption figures published by the manufacturers in accordance with EN IEC 63136. They correspond to the average values of the third of the machines with the highest consumption.
As the published measurement data in accordance with EN IEC 63136 only includes current appliances, we calculate an additional 5% additional consumption, which takes into account that the installed base corresponds to an older generation of appliances with higher consumption. The calculated base value from the measured values is increased accordingly by 5%.
Entitlement to funding
If an appliance has a consumption that is at least 20% lower than the base value and a maximum of 25% higher than that of the best appliance, it can be promoted by EcoGastro.
